Why we started this + where we’re living
Ever search for answers endlessly on the internet and find literally no resolve to your questions? But you know, deep down, that someone out there has to be just as frustrated as their visa site crashes or the most touristy places possible are the only suggestions that pop up for site suggestions? It seems whenever I try to plan a trip or need international help, the internet is more of a pain than a gain. In an effort to try and reduce some of this frustration, we decided to create our own spot on the web to help out that fellow traveler who just wants to know what the heck a National ID card is or if they really need a gajillion different travel accessories.
This site will be updated with our experiences as we work and study in Europe for the year. We’ll also have some fun stories and tips about places we’ve been in the past. But mostly, this will be a place for us to turn to when the rain is pouring down for the 46th hour in a row in England or the heat reaches past 106F in Spain.
Jen >> I am a junior at the University of Toledo studying biology with the intention of going to optometry school after graduation. I will be traveling to the UK to study abroad at the University of Salford in Manchester, the second largest English city. The University of Toledo has a great program with Salford where they send students from both universities to swap lives and learn about biology in different countries. I will be in Manchester from September 2019 until May 2020. I plan on staying with Sarah after my courses end in May for a month before we head home.
Sarah >> I just graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in International Studies including a minor in Spanish and Communications. I will be flying off to Madrid, Spain through the company ConversaSpain to work in schools teaching young students English as a foreign language. I will be working from September 2019 until June 2020 and I am so excited to start this program.
We hope that our posts are not only informative but also bring out the humor that comes with navigating different cultures and experiences. We’ve found the joy in sharing our awkward stories to each other over the phone of cringy encounters and dumb mistakes and hope that these stories written down will bring the same enjoyment and relatablility to those reading.
